5/6/2023 0 Comments Cubital tunnel![]() ![]() Diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome and cervical nerve root compression are risk factors for cubital tunnel syndrome. Cubital tunnel syndrome (CUTS) is the second most common nerve compression following carpal tunnel syndrome and is caused by compression of the ulnar nerve.Tarsal tunnel syndrome: In tarsal tunnel syndrome, your posterior tibial nerve gets compressed as it travels along the inside of your ankle. It is bordered medially by the medial epicondyle of the humerus, laterally by the olecranon process of the ulna and the tendinous arch joining the humeral and ulnar heads of the flexor carpi ulnaris. Cubital tunnel syndrome: In cubital tunnel syndrome, damage to your ulnar nerve (sometimes called the funny bone) in your elbow causes symptoms in your hand and fingers. Tumours, ganglion cysts or extra muscles are less common causes of nerve compression. The cubital tunnel is a space of the dorsal medial elbow which allows passage of the ulnar nerve around the elbow.Elbow arthritis – The elbow joint forms the floor of the cubital tunnel, so arthritis or swelling of the joint can narrow the tunnel, compressing the ulnar nerve.Fractures of the elbow may cause deformity which stretches the nerve or narrows the tunnel. This causes swelling and injury to the nerve. Nerve subluxation 10-15% of people have an unstable nerve – it moves in and out of the tunnel ‘subluxing’ over the epicondyle as the elbow bends. Cubital tunnel syndrome is a condition where your ulnar nerve (one of the three main nerves of the arm) becomes compressed.Sleeping posture with the elbow very bent for many years (chronic stretching).Sports or work that involves prolonged bending of the elbow or repeated bending and straightening the elbow (chronic stretching).Leaning on the elbow for many years causes swelling of the nerve in its tunnel (chronic compression). The nerve is just under the skin where we lean on the elbow, so it can be compressed easily. The ulnar nerve passes close to the skins surface in the area of the elbow commonly called the 'funny bone. ![]() The ulnar nerve can be injured by direct pressure or stretching. Cubital tunnel syndrome (also known as ulnar neuropathy) is a nerve compression syndrome which affects the ulnar nerve that runs along the inside of the elbow. ![]()
